About Us
ORGANIC & SUSTAINABLE TEXTILES
It is predicted that just 40 years from now, about 30 % more people will live in the world than today. The good news for business world is that this growth means billions of new consumers; the bad news is that due to dwindling resources and changing climate, this population will not be able to live in today's consumption-oriented lifestyle. The philosophy of "wear less but wear better" is becoming widespread among consumers day by day with the increase in environmental awareness. Consumers, looking for products and services that will allow them to reduce their carbon footprints in easy ways, demand more accurate product information and the way to do this is to produce sustainable, ecological textile products.

Sustainability, which means creating a balance between nature and humans, is only valid when it can be proven and certified. Brands and manufacturers have to document and certify the materials, working and environmental conditions they use in order to show their global sustainability. We know that conventional textile production is not sustainable because it relies heavily on non-renewable resources, uses toxic inputs, and nearly every stage of fiber production is wasteful. As the popularity for the natural products in the world increases with the deterioration of the ecological balance and the increasing environmental awareness, organic and sustainable textile production is more in demand. However, organic textile production is not a trend for us, it is our conscious strategy and there is no return back to the old.

Because all our lives depend on natural resources and our resources are not endless. The steady increase in fossil fuel-based energy use and the rapid depletion of natural resources continue to affect key ecosystems such as food, clean water, timber and fish resources. More frequent and severe weather disasters, droughts and famine affect human populations and wildlife around the world. Globally, 70% of fresh water is used in agriculture today. Cotton is grown in 2.5% of agricultural production areas in the world. Approximately 40% of the world's textile is based on cotton, and approximately 350 million people globally sustain their lives with cotton production. 8500 liters of water (irrigation or rain) is needed to grow 1 kg of cotton fiber. 10% of the pesticides and 25% of the insecticides used in the world are applied in cotton production, and cotton is in the 4th place in the use of synthetic fertilizers.

While 700 lt / m2 water is needed for cotton cultivation, 30-70 lt / m2 water is needed for hemp cultivation; in other words, water consumption of hemp is 10 times less than cotton. We consider cannabis to be a natural treasure for water conservation, as natural water resources are significantly reduced.
When the roots of cannabis enter the soil, it acts as a rich source of selenium and a natural soil thinner, in addition to that it is a natural source of Oxygen that prevents radiation. There is no need to use pesticides and herbicides in cannabis cultivation. Hemp fiber quality can be increased by alternating planting without using fertilizers. The stem of cannabis is used to obtain fiber, the woody part is used to obtain energy, and the upper 25 cm of the plant is used to obtain cbd oil. Waste fibers from the spinning process can be used as insulation material. Therefore, the hemp production process is zero waste and can be recycled 8 times more than other fibers.
When we look at the textile comfort features, hemp fabric is breathable, skin-friendly, natural antibacterial, has higher hydrophility than cotton, long-lasting and can provide thermal comfort.

We think the textile industry should preserve and popularize hemp if it wants to continue to have natural resources to produce value-added products. Because hemp products are one of the innovative, environmentally friendly and sustainable rare products that we can leave a legacy to future generations, and as Marka Tekstil, we try to encourage the use of hemp by including it in every collection. Our projection for the future use of bast fibers such as flax, hemp and nettle is as follows:

Sustainability, which means creating a balance between nature and humans, is only valid when it can be proven and certified. Brands and manufacturers have to document and certify the materials, working and environmental conditions they use in order to show their global sustainability. We think that natural bast fibers products, which are currently on the shelves of many major brands, will gain more reputation, become widespread and increase in growth rate with the increase in institutionalization between 2020-2022.

Considering the scheme of obtaining natural bast fibers below, we see that by-products produced at every stage of production can find use in various segments of the industry. This makes us think that we are on the right track in terms of sustainability and ecological production.

Linen-Hemp and Nettle growing, processing and harvesting flow is as follows:

The roadmap to a sustainable world involves risks as well as opportunities and requires radical changes in the way we do business. Many companies will change, adapt and face challenges. We found it more appropriate to start earlier.
Today, while the global focus is on the environment and the economy, we hope to be able to act courageously to abandon unsustainable business models and contribute to the future of the world and all of us. We consider it appropriate to switch to a growth model based on the balanced use of renewable resources and the recycling of non-renewable ones. Because our strategy is not to imitate the successful, but to create the different, not only the planning process, but also to create the original, not to predict the future, but to direct the future in line with healthy predictions; not to find a more successful marketing method in an intense competitive environment, but to find innovative solutions in niche markets where there is no competition.

As Marka Tekstil, we know from our vision and past experience that we must be more flexible, more open to do business with various partners and customers, and be proficient at dealing with rapid changes in different fronts in order to survive. We aim to demonstrate a pioneering culture by focusing on reducing energy and material waste in our operations. This culture not only reduces pollution, but also makes us more collaborative and competitive. We want to contribute to a more creative society by creating and maintaining adequate job opportunities in terms of social responsibility while increasing labor productivity. For this purpose, we carry out wprojects such as the organic toy project, as well as vocational training projects, with our collaborations with local governments and non-governmental organizations.
